Chicago is based on the play written in 1926 by the Chicago Tribune journalist Maurine Dallas Watkins. It is about Roxie Hart, a nightclub dancer who kills her lover and avoids imprisonment with the help of the smart lawyer Billy Flynn. She takes advantage of the publicity from her court case to climb the ladder in show business, together with another killer and nightclub dancer, Velma Kelly.
The Broadway production won six Tony Awards in 1997, including the award for ‘Best revival of a musical’, ‘Best lighting’, ‘Best choreography’ and ‘Best direction of a musical’.
