Four Temperaments Mixed Bill: The Royal Ballet
at Royal Opera House
A world premiere from much sought after Iraeli choreographer Hofesh Shechter is the centrepiece of this contemporary mixed programme from The Royal Ballet. Characteristic of Shechter's visceral and compelling style is his focus on ensembles above the soloists, here as an exploration of tribal energy through "an ocean" of dancers. This dark and intense new work is certaint to leave an impression. It's an ideal complement to the two ballets that complete this dynamic contemporary programme. Balanchine's groundbreaking The Four Temperaments presents a series of fiercely challenging solos and ensembles with a radiant climax set to music by Hindemith. The programme is completed by the powerful Song Of The Earth, set to Mahler's great song cycle, in which Kenneth MacMillan explores the fragility of human life through choreography of flowing and poignantly angular beauty.
